About the Designer

Malibu-based jewelry designer, Laure Williams launched her website showcasing the Laure Williams collection of beautiful, unique jewelry in September 2004.

The 51 year old designer lives on Heathercliff Drive in Malibu and started her jewelry line on January 2004, after honing her skills working for an LA jewelry designer for 13 years.

"My son gave me $2500 for my birthday to follow my dream and set up my own line" she explained

All the jewelry is handmade and wire wrapped. Williams uses, among many materials: sterling silver, Swarovski crystals, seashells and semi precious stones like turquoise, amethyst, and crystal.
Laure’s jewelry is so unique that most of her pieces are one of a kind.

"My favorite colors are lavender, purple, blue, green, crystal and white. I love to use freshwater pearls and amethysts." she said. Crystal necklaces like ‘Priceless Love', made from crystal quartz, crystal beads, glass bugle beads,  and ‘The Malibu Pearl’, which combines pink freshwater pearls and crystals, are part of her signature line.

Unusual combinations can be found in necklaces like ‘Forever Purple’. This contains moonstones, glass beads and gold-plated findings. 'Forever Mystique' is made with Mother-of-Pearl, turquoise & sterling findings, and seashells.

" I got the interest to get started while Christmas shopping with my ten month old son in Santa Barbara in 1983. I saw a bead store and fell in love" Williams explained.

"At the 2003 Cornucopia party in Malibu, I was wearing my red crystal necklace. Everyone was commenting on it and asking me where they could buy it. That really gave me the confidence to set up my own company" she said.

Laure collects beads obsessively. "I buy a lot of stuff from all over" she said.

"I am concentrating on designing and trying to reach out to more stores to stock the line" she explained.

"I worked at the Renaissance fair for 20 years, and managed a booth there for ten. I was always in the presence of jewelry. I sold puzzle rings. It was a huge Celtic thing, with a very gypsy and Bohemian like atmosphere."

Laure’s childhood, to which she attributes her inspirations, took her to places all around the world.

" My dad worked for Pan American airlines. I spent three years in Guam, five in Hawaii and three in Germany. I was excited to be approached by natives in Guatemala holding up bunches of necklaces. I’ve bought shells for my necklaces back from Tahiti.

My grandmother was a fashion model with an extensive collection of rhinestone necklaces that led to my love for jewelry.

I used to dress up in it when I was a little girl." she remininsced.

Williams has lived in Malibu for five years. Before that she lived in Malibou Lake.

" I was born in Santa Monica and am a second generation Californian" she explained.

" We moved away when I was five. I came back at 16."

She has a son, Chris, 22 and daughter Veronika, 19.

Her hobbies include plants, gardening and hiking up Zuma canyon everyday.
